Hear from the Fortnightly winners and find out about their winning trades and how the top Hero won the cash prize of SGD $1,500.
Congratulations to all winners for the second Fortnight of the Phillip-Macquarie Warrant Challenge!
1. Zhu Chi
2. Nancy Poh
3. AldinoMisti
The second runner-up Rachel, a fresh university graduate, mentioned that she learnt about warrants via the educational videos on Macquarie’s Investor Academy. “As I knew little about warrants and have never traded warrants before, I felt it was important that I familiarised myself with the instrument. I found the videos to be useful in helping me get started”, says Rachel.
Top performer profit from HSI call warrant
Top performer “hzhcy” (Zhu Chi) made a gain of more than 52% trading the short dated HSI call warrant HSI21200 MBeCW140328 (TZ4W). Zhu Chi bought TZ4W on the afternoon of 18 March and the HSI fell sharply on 20 March after the US Federal Reserve announced their plans to end the asset purchase program. However, the HSI rebounded quickly after China announced its plan to loosen funding restrictions for banks and property developers. The HSI added more than 2.9% during the last week of March, making Zhu Chi the top performer this fortnight. During an interview with Zhu Chi, he mentioned that he had been trading the HSI in the real market and was actually holding puts. He decided to buy the HSI call warrant in the Warrant Challenge via the TradeHero app as a hedge for his real-life position. Indeed, the HSI’s advance made Zhu Chi the winner of this fortnight, winning him the cash prize of $1,500 that more than offset his losses in the real market.
First and second runners-up bullish on UOB
First runner-up Nancy Poh made a significant portion of her gains trading UOB call warrant UOB MBeCW140701 (TH6W). Nancy entered her position in TH6W on the afternoon of 12 March when the underlying UOB share was trading at 20.14. In addition to TH6W, Nancy also entered into a position on another UOB call warrant UOB MBeCW140602 (TH7W) with a lower strike. Apart from UOB, Nancy also entered into trading positions over other warrants during her investment period. Some of these trades made significant gains while others suffered losses. Investors who are interested in finding out more about Nancy’s trading strategies may follow her on the TradeHero app. Like Nancy, second runner-up AldinoMisti also profited from trading UOB call warrants. Aldino entered into the position on UOB MBeCW150102 (SQ8W) on 17 March afternoon when the underlying UOB share was trading at $19.82. UOB share price gained sharply over the next two week, rising 6.8% whilst Aldino made a gain of more than 56% in his UOB call warrant. As of last Friday (28 March), both Nancy and Aldino have yet to close out their positions on UOB call warrants.Hear from the previous fortnightly winners
Paul and Rachel were among the top performers of the previous fortnight and it is their first attempt at trading warrants. The top performer of Fortnight 1 said in an interview with Macquarie Warrants Singapore that “there is no risk is involved in playing the Warrant Challenge. It is a good platform to paper-trade warrants and see if I can make a consistent profit before trading them in the real world.”
